West Ham United want to sign Liam Delap over Evan Ferguson this summer, according to a report from GIVEMESPORT.

It wouldn’t be a transfer window if West Ham didn’t need to buy a striker, and this summer is absolutely no different.

With Ings and Antonio set to leave, Fullkrug’s injury problems and Evan Ferguson returning to Brighton from his loan, Graham Potter will surely be dipping into the market for a number nine.

The 49-year-old’s top target for the position is reportedly Jonathan David who is available on a free transfer this summer.

However, a move to the Hammers looks unlikely as clubs with Champions League football like Barcelona and Arsenal are interested so we may have to look at alternatives.

Those alternatives are a permanent move for Evan Ferguson or an audacious swoop for Ipswich and England U21 striker Liam Delap.

The 22-year-old has been in excellent form for the Tractor Boys in the Premier League this season. He has bagged 12 goals in 30 League appearances with only eight players in the League scoring more.

The Hammers have been desperate for a striker with the youth, availability and ability of someone like Liam Delap for years and it’s clear to see why Potter and the West Ham board would rather make a move for the former City man over Evan Ferguson.

Delap has a £40m release clause in the event of Ipswich’s relegation which looks almost certain to be confirmed in the next couple of weeks as they are 12 points from safety with eight matches remaining.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Hammers triggered the release clause if a move for Jonathan David doesn’t happen. However, we are expected to face a hell of a lot of competition with Chelsea, Arsenal, Palace and Everton also interested in the striker.
