Former Aston Villa striker and TalkSport pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Liam Delap to join West Ham over Manchester United this summer.

When it comes to disappointing seasons, West Ham and Manchester United have been top of the pile in the Premier League. A lot of that has been down to both teams lack of a goal scoring striker.

Both are looking to rectify that this summer as Liam Delap is set to be available for £40m due to  a release clause if Ipswich are relegated. Their relegation is all but confirmed, so the 22 -year-old striker will certainly be on the move this summer.

Former Aston Villa frontman Gabby Agbonlahor said: “I’d take him over what they’ve (Man United) got. He’s better than Hojlund, better than Zirkzee but if I’m Delap, well I’d tell him not to go there.

“It’s still negative there at Man United. Anyone who goes there bar (Bruno) Fernandes has been a disappointment in recent years.”

He continued by saying a move to London could be Delap’s best option this summer with Arsenal and West Ham United said to be interested in his services.

“I would go to a different club, why not go to Arsenal? I could see him at Arsenal I really could. But has he done enough yet to warrant signing for a team that’s competing for the Premier League title? I don’t know.

“Does he take a step in-between that, you know like a West Ham.

“West Ham need a striker in the summer, (Evan) Ferguson is only loan isn’t he, so maybe a West Ham might suit him better. But I do really rate him.”

If he joins Arsenal he won’t be guaranteed a starting place as they may still sign another striker and Mikel Arteta loves Kai Havertz. He probably would start at United, but does he really want to join that club in the mess they’re in now?

West Ham may be the perfect destination for the England U21 international, he will only really have injury prone Niclas Fullkrug as competition and Graham Potter is excellent at improving young players as we saw at Brighton.

At 22-years-old Delap still has a lot of time to earn a move to a bigger club than the Hammers, and as we saw with Declan Rice we are willing to sell our best players for the right fee.
