James Ward-Prowse believes West Ham can cause an upset against champions-elect Liverpool at Anfield this afternoon.
The Hammers travel to Merseyside looking to be just the third team to beat Arne Slot’s team this season. In fact, Ward-Prowse played 90 minutes in one of those matches when Nottingham Forest defeated the Reds at Anfield in September.
The Hammers are looking for their first win in five matches after disappointing results against Newcastle, Everton, Wolves, and Bournemouth. Despite a home draw with the Cherries last weekend, JWP believes we can still cause an upset.
“It’s never easy when you go to Anfield, and they’ll be desperate to show a reaction after being beaten last weekend.
“They’ll know they’re close to winning the league, and will want to take another step forward, but we’ve got lots still to play for ourselves and it’s up to us to put on a performance that helps delay them doing that.
“As a team, these last few games are a chance to rectify what has been a disappointing season so far. And for me personally, every game is a chance to show what you can do, regardless of what you’re aiming for.
“We’ll need things to go our way if we’re to have a good chance of a result – we need a good gameplan, a good performance, and some luck as well – but we can only control what we can control, and go there with lots of belief.”
JWP is right, it has been a very disappointing season for the Hammers so far, but we have had a couple of very impressive results, one of those being the 1-0 win over title challengers Arsenal at the Emirates.
However, wins at Anfield have been very very hard to come by for the Hammers with the last coming in 2015, so JWP and the rest of the team will have to be at their best to deal with Salah and co in Liverpool.
