West Ham robbed of a result against Liverpool following late drama at Anfield.

Another trip to Anfield and another defeat for West Ham. Much more often than not, it’s a ground they absolutely hate visiting, a ground that they usually get hammered in. However, that wasn’t the case in this weekend’s game.

For the opening 30 minutes or so, it was incredibly frustrating to watch from a West Ham point of view. Liverpool dominated the ball while the Irons couldn’t get out of their own half. Salah, who had been causing the defence all sorts of issues, put in a perfect ball into Luis Diaz who was then able to tap home the opening goal.

However, after this Graham Potter’s side grew into the game, and particularly in the second-half they began to take control. In fact, on the balance of the whole game, it’s probably West Ham who were the better side.

Despite piling on massive pressure, it wasn’t until the 86th minute that they managed to find an equaliser through a Robertson own goal.

Infuriatingly, just a few minutes later the referee failed to blow his whistle for a blatant foul on Paqueta, which led to a corner from which the hosts found the winner. Van Djik’s header also shouldn’t have stood at all considering he pushed Fullkrug in the back with both hands to get to the ball.

Disgraceful officiating week after week makes it really difficult to enjoy football. Although you could argue that West Ham should have taken some more of their chances, it doesn’t change the fact that they would’ve walked away from Merseyside with a positive result if the referee had done his job properly.
