West Ham could look into the free agent market in the summer transfer window, and one potential signing has already emerged.

There have been plenty of question marks over some of the Hammers transfer business last summer. Going in to a summer where plenty of in comings and outgoings are expected, the club will need to operate shrewdly in order to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

Bringing down the average age of the squad is something West Ham have needed to do for quite some time. There appears to be a good chance Vladimir Coufal will leave the club this summer, the Hammers already have their eye on a potential replacement for the 32 year old.

West Ham are keen to bring Kyle Walker Peters to East London this summer. The Southampton defender, who has been linked with the club in previous transfer windows, would be available on a free transfer.

Should Coufal depart, bringing the Spurs academy graduate to the club would represent a shrewd bit of business from West Ham, especially on a free. Walker Peters is 27, five years younger than Coufal, and he is versatile, comfortable at either right back or left back.

Another benefit to signing the Southampton man this summer is his top flight experience. The 27 year old currently has 145 Premier League appearances to his name. That level of experience means he would arguably represent a low risk signing, and he’d likely find it easier to settle into a new team compared to someone joining the club from abroad.

Despite being a part of an incredibly poor Southampton side this season, Kyle Walker Peters is a solid Premier League player. Being available on a free this summer, there will be a number of clubs queuing up to try and land the 27 year old’s signature.

If West Ham can act quickly and decisively to secure the former Tottenham man’s signature, it would be an incredibly smart signing. Walker Peters is at the right age, has plenty of Premier League experience, can play at right back and left back, and is of course available on a free.

In a summer where smart and efficient additions will be important, the potential signing of Kyle Walker Peters ticks all the right boxes.
