West Ham were unlucky not to at least draw with Liverpool but poor starts to games need addressing, says ExWHUEmployee.

Our Hammers came away from Anfield empty handed at the weekend, although for the majority of the game West Ham were the better side and certainly were deserving of more than a 2-1 defeat.

It was a cruel blow when Virgil van Dijk scored the winner in the dying seconds, with the soon-to-be champions showing their DNA in seeing a game through which Potters side ultimately struggled to manage.

Despite the positive display, ExWHUEmployee has shared his frustrations in that West Ham once again started a match firmly on the back foot and took time to grow into the game, which appears to be a running theme at present.

“I thought it was a strange performance,” said the club insider. “The first 25 mins or so we really struggled defensively. Kudus hit the bar and then Mavropanos should have done better from the corner.

“We then played a lot better in the second half – which seems to be the current trend at the moment and begs some questions.

“I felt we were really unlucky to not get at least a point from the game. So trying to remain positive I think it was a good performance against the walkaway league title winners, which should put us in a confident position going into our game next weekend against the bottom side in the league.”
