West Ham want to sign a striker this summer, but it may prove difficult on the expected tight transfer budget.
West Ham cannot go into next season with just Niclas Fullkrug up front, so it is key for Graham Potter to bring in a number nine this summer. The signing of Evan Ferguson really hasn’t worked out and he will not sign permanently.
With West Ham’s lack of European football and limited budget means they may be limited in their potential transfer options when it comes to signing a striker.
The most recent rumours suggest we could make a move for Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap who will have a £40m release clause if they are relegated. While expensive, a compromise could be made for such an impressive striker. Manchester United and Chelsea are also interested in the 22-year-old, so a deal may be difficult.
West Ham’s main target is reportedly Jonathan David. The Canadian striker is available on a free transfer, but the cost to bring him to the London Stadium including wages, signing bonuses, and agent fees may be too much for the club. Rumours of a £50m package have been circling online.
If neither of these signings happen, we will likely move for cheaper alternatives. One of the names mentioned is Emanuel Emegha of Strasbourg. His fee will be less, but it would be much more of a risk. The Dutchman has been in sensational form in Ligue 1 this season and it would be the type of transfer West Ham fans want to see under Graham Potter.
