Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign free agent Angel Gomes after rejecting a move to West Ham.

One of Graham Potter’s priorities this summer is to sign a midfielder who can control a game. In Potter’s opinion, the ideal man for that job is Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, who is available on a free transfer.

The Hammers are said to have offered the England International a contract, however, the former Manchester United man is said to have no interest in joining the club.

Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace, and Fulham are also chasing Gomes. The 24-year-old reportedly prefers a move to Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs.

Gomes was born in Edmonton, an area full of Spurs fans. Despite moving to Manchester very early in his life, it may feel like a homecoming for the midfielder.

Despite Spurs’ unlikelihood of being in European competition next season, it’s clear why Gomes would prefer a move to North London. The usually consistent European football and the potential of playing in a world-class stadium.

However, if Gomes ends up at Palace and Fulham instead of us, it would show how much pull we’ve lost in the transfer market in the space of one season.
