West Ham scrape an embarrassing point against the worst team in Premier League history.
Watching West Ham this season is becoming a real chore. Boring football with a general lack of effort and next to no cohesion is absolutely infuriating to witness on a weekly basis.
In perhaps their most frustrating game of the season, the Hammers were not only unable to beat Southampton, one of the worst teams in Premier League history, but they were outplayed.
Despite being second best in the first-half, the hosts took the lead through a well taken Jarrod Bowen strike.
While things did improve temporarily, the standard of football was still nowhere near good enough.
Across the 90’, Southampton had by far the better chances and were unlucky not to score more than they did. Their deserved equaliser came in the 93rd minute via an excellent Ugochukwu finish.
Conceding 15 shots to an already relegated team, let alone one as poor as the Saints, it’s unforgivable. Fingers can be pointed but, ultimately, it’s a collective issue. Potter seriously got it wrong with the substitutes, but players not putting in enough effort and failing to listen to the manager’s instructions are just as crucial.
However, fans are unsurprisingly starting to raise questions over the gaffer. His win rate this season is currently lower than that of Julen Lopetegui, and he’s failed to deliver three points in any of the last six games. Although these aren’t his players, they’re certainly capable at performing better than they are now and a lot of that is down to the system Potter is implementing simply not suiting the group.
The draw was an overall embarrassment to the club. If Niclas Fullkrug’s post-match reaction was anything to go by, things could get ugly very fast.
