Lucas Paqueta is almost certain to leave West Ham United this summer as Graham Potter heads up a summer rebuild.
It has been a tough couple of years at West Ham for Lucas Paqueta, he looked set to become an icon at West Ham after his assist in the Conference League final. However, since the betting charges surfaced he has failed to get any consistency in a West Ham shirt.
His trial for spot-fixing is still ongoing with the outcome still unknow. The Hammers are confident Paqueta will be proven innocent due to the lack of evidence, but whatever happens, Lucas Paqueta will not be a West Ham player next season.
It would be easy to understand if we sold Paqueta to Manchester City for a minimum of £40m, but to sell arguably the most talented player in the squad who will be able to play burden-free if found innocent would be stupid if he returned to Brazil for a small fee.
Bolavip Brasil claim that Paqueta has accepted a huge pay-cut in order to help facilitate a move to Flamengo this summer. The Hammers would reportedly sell the Brazilian for £20m, but to sell him for that would be nothing short of embarrassing for the club.
While Graham Potter wants to shape the squad into his own, Paqueta is probably one of the last players the 49-year-old wants to lose from his squad. The Brazil International has played in pretty much every game he has been available for under Potter and has arguably been the most improved player in the squad since he took over in January.
If Paqueta was sold for £20m it would arguably be worse than the £25m sales of Dimitri Payet and Marko Arnautovic. They forced their way out of the club, and unless Paqueta does that, which would be very unlikely we should be keeping him at the club next season.
