West Ham are expecting Edson Alvarez to be available this weekend following his withdrawal from the squad to face Southampton, its been reported by ExWHUEmployee.

The match against the already-relegated Saints was seen as an opportunity to gain a much needed 3-points and boost the mood in east London, however another disappointing display saw our Hammers claim just a point, with the visitors grabbing a deserved 93rd minute equaliser.

One key note going into the match was the absence of Mexican international Alvarez, who was omitted from the squad entirely, which posed many questions, especially with the player posting cryptic messages on social media.

Reporting on The West Ham Way Podcast, club insider ExWHUEmployee shared further information on the current situation, with Ex advising that the player reported a back injury late which prompted the squad omission forced upon Graham Potter.

“Edson Alvarez withdrew himself from availability for the match due to a back injury,” stated our insider.

“It’s understood that the injury is however minor, and the midfielder is expected to be fully fit and available to face Brighton this weekend.

“We also understand that the club will entertain offer for Alvarez this summer.”

Ex also reported that Aaron Cresswell missed the Southampton game through a minor injury of his own, with the defender expected to return for selection soon.
