West Ham Women’s defender Shelina Zadorsky was extremely proud of her Hammers teammates after they secured a point against Manchester United.
The 0-0 draw against United, who are currently sat third in the WSL, means Rehanne Skinner’s side continue their great run of recent form. West Ham have lost just one of their last five games. Four of these games have been against the WSL’s current top four sides, the Hammers were narrowly beaten by Arsenal, drew against Manchester City and league leaders Chelsea, and held Manchester United to a draw at the weekend.
Zadorsky formed part of West Ham’s backline which did an excellent job of restricting United to mainly half chances throughout the game at the weekend. The defender has been a mainstay in Rehanne Skinner’s side this season playing in 18 of their 19 WSL matches.
Rehanne Skinner’s side’s last three league games are against the league’s bottom three. Canada international Zadorsky is hopeful the Hammers can build on their recent momentum, continue their unbeaten run and end the campaign on a high.
“I think we knew it was going to be a physical game. They (Manchester United) have a good defence, so it was hard to break them down.” said the defender to the clubs Official Website.
Zadorsky went on to add: “I’m really proud of everyone. I think we defended as a full team, and everyone who came on made an impact. Obviously I want us to get goals, but we’ve created chances, and there are lots of positives.”
Reflecting on the Hammers recent run of form, Zadorsky said: “We’ve shown over the last few weeks we can go toe to toe with the top four teams in the Barclays Women’s Super League, and that we can compete against the best players in the country and the rest of the world. We’ve come a long way, and we just want to keep getting more results.”
The motivation for Zadorsky and the Hammers squad is clear, to end the season in the best league position they can and take their recent form into their last three league games: “We want to finish as high as we possibly can. We want to get as many points as possible out of these last three league games.” said the Canadian.
