Graham Potter is keen to recreate Brighton’s transfer success at West Ham.

Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui cooked up one of West Ham’s worst Summer transfer windows in recent memory. While neither of them are employed at the club still, the impact of it has been disastrous.

If it wasn’t for three incredibly weak promoted teams, the Hammers could very well have been relegated.

In order to turn things around next season, Graham Potter needs a complete rebuild of the current squad, and he plans on doing that with a similar strategy to what he did at Brighton.

“At Brighton, we left the club fourth on the table, with, in my opinion, the best pound-for-pound squad in the Premier League. If we can achieve the same at West Ham, we can be whatever you want to say. So you’ve got a winning team with value on the pitch,” the gaffer stated.

“If you can win and sell players then you should be happy with that performance. No?”

“There’s a noise and there’s a game around the transfer windows all the time. Speculation will be what it is — there’s nothing we can do about it. This club has got resources. We mustn’t waste resources.”

This season, and over previous seasons too, West Ham have had the oldest starting XI in the league. While Potter doesn’t necessarily see this as an issue, he says “it makes sense for us to lower it” due to an increase in player’s “resale value”.

“But I don’t think our fans care what age the players are, if we’re a lot higher up in the league and we’re winning more games and we’re playing better football.”
