West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen is fuming after the Hammers conceded two goals past the 89th minute to lose 3-2 away at Brighton on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead through Ayari in the first half before goals from Kudus and Soucek, both assisted by Jarrod Bowen, gave West Ham a much-needed lead. However, in typical West Ham fashion, we came home with nothing thanks to two late goals from Mitoma and Baleba.

“It’s obviously gutting. Of course it is,” he reflected.

“I just think the manner of the game, how it went, to lose [like that] is just sickening. But we have to look at ourselves again. I don’t think it’s the first time this season that we’ve been in a winning position and not ended up picking points from the game.

“This is the Premier League, it’s the toughest league. You’ve got to be on it for 100 minutes if it takes that long. So, yeah, like I said, it’s sickening because I thought when we got ourselves in front, we were in a good position. But ultimately, we weren’t. And some results hurt more than others.”

This game showed how weak the mentality is throughout most of the Hammers squad at the moment. While we showed character to turn the deficit around in the first place, to defend like that when defending a lead with just minutes left was pathetic.

While there is nothing for the team to play for in terms of staying up or pushing for European places, you want to see the players playing for their place in the squad next season, ahead of what is expected to be a major clearout. But no, it was yet another bad performance for the most part. At least it’s one game closer to the end of this horrible season.
