Emma Harries came off the bench to score a brace as West Ham Women ran riot against Crystal Palace at the weekend. The Hammers won 7-1, Harries certainly left her mark on the game, even after coming on in the 71st minute when West Ham were comfortably in front.
Brought on with 19 minutes of the 90 remaining, Harries was eager to make an impact. Her reward would come 15 minutes later, collecting a pass from Riko Ueki, Harries got the ball out of her feet, curling a fine finish into the far corner to score her first WSL goal for the Club.
The 23 year old grabbed West Ham’s seventh of the afternoon in stoppage time. Princess Ademiluyi played the ball into Harries path who had the easy task of passing the ball into the empty Crystal Palace net to score her second of the game.
Harries showed her appreciation for youngster Ademiluyi’s assist, running to the 18 year old to celebrate the goal with her. After the game, Harries praised the collective effort behind the Hammers emphatic away win.
Heaping the praise on her teammates for helping her score her first WSL goals in Claret and Blue, Harries said to the clubs Official Website: “I wouldn’t be able to score these goals without my teammates. I’m very thankful to them.”
With manager Rehanne Skinner introducing her late into the game, Harries highlighted the energy the substitutes brought to a Hammers side that was already in cruise control: “I think we (the substitutes that came on) brought energy. That’s what we’re here to do: come on and change the game, impact the game. I think as a team, at the moment, we’re relentless to play against. We’re in fantastic form.
The win against Palace means the Hammers are now unbeaten in their last five matches. The 7-1 scoreline set a new Club record for their biggest WSL win, Rehanne Skinner’s side have now closed the gap on fifth placed Brighton to just two points.
West Ham Women are in a great position. In good form, and coming off the back of a record breaking win, they will have every confidence they can end the season winning their last two games and finishing the campaign in a WSL position to be proud of.
