Graham Potter will be given a quarter of next season to prove himself, according to a Football Insider report.
The biggest insult you could give Graham Potter is that we haven’t improved since he took over from Julen Lopetegui, and to be honest it’s probably true.
One thing that has improved is the defence, we haven’t conceded more than three goals in a match under Potter, we did that multiple times during Lopetegui’s reign. But as a result of that, the attack has really suffered and has been much worse than it was under the Spaniard.
However, we know that isn’t Graham Potter’s style of football. The 49-year-old wants to play creative and attacking football, but the defence was so bad it had to be focused on.
The former Brighton coach has methods of coaching, training and tactics that a lot of the players wouldn’t be used to after playing under managers like Moyes and Lopetegui, so he needs time to drill what he wants to do into the players and pre-season is the best time to do that.
While there are fans that already want Potter out because it’s been so boring and negative, however, that would be an absolutely ridiculous decision. Potter needs time and a summer transfer window to show what he can really offer to the Hammers squad.
