West Ham have a big decision to make this summer surrounding the future of Tomas Soucek, with ExWHUEmployee providing an update.

The Czech international, who has been a mainstay in east London since his arrival in 2020, has made 190 appearances whilst earning a cult-hero status at the club.

Many see Soucek as a club legend, having played a pivotal role in recent successful years, having been a key player on our quest to lift the Europa Conference League trophy in 2023.

However, since the departure of David Moyes at the end of last season, there have been question marks over whether the midfielder would be able to continue as a regular starter in the West Ham midfield, something which continues following the arrival of Graham Potter in January.

Although he is still clearly a player the club can utilise, which was demonstrated with his performance and goal in the loss to Brighton last weekend, Soucek’s future this summer is in doubt, especially with former boss Moyes – who is now at Everton, eager to bring his trusted midfielder to the north of England this summer.

Reporting on The West Ham Way Podcast, our insider ExWHUEmployee has provided an update on the current state of play, with it evident that the player has no desire to depart east London.

“There are still question marks over the future of Soucek,” stated Ex. “However, we understand that the player wishes to remain and would be open to signing a new deal also.

“The situation is that Everton and Moyes really want him, with a move for the player highly likely this summer. The decision as to whether we allow him to move on sits with Graham Potter.

“It’s clear Potter is currently assessing the squad ahead of the transfer window, so it will come down to whether he feels Soucek still has a lot to offer, or whether its time to cash in as part of the overhaul.

“It’s a big call for Potter to make, with Soucek again showing at the weekend he can play such an important role.”
