Argentinian giants River Plate are keen on signing West Ham midfielder Guido Rodriguez this summer, according to TNT Sports Argentina.

Guido Rodriguez has had a torrid time since joining West Ham on a free transfer from Real Betis this summer. He has gone from a first-team starter at the start of the season under Julen Lopetegui, to being on the bench, to not even making the matchday squad, despite being fit.

Lopetegui was keen on bringing in the Argentinian because of his excellent performances for Betis while he was manager of bitter rivals Sevilla. However, much like our former boss, his skills weren’t able to transfer to the Premier League. He hasn’t even featured under new manager Julen Lopetegui, despite the huge problems with our midfield.

If he wasn’t already, Guido will be absolutely devested his move to Barcelona didn’t go through. He was all set to join the Blaugrana but their financial issues meant they couldn’t register him, so they opted not to sign the free agent.

The World Cup winner could’ve stayed in La Liga and been on for the treble with the world’s most young an exciting team, but instead he’s spent the season rotting with the worst West Ham side in over a decade. However, he is set to get out of this nightmare a year before his contract ends with River Plate interested in signing the midfielder

River Plate are reportedly willing to pay a nominal fee to secure the services of the former Real Betis defensive midfielder. Despite it likely being a fee less than £1m, it is a bonus because it wouldn’t surprise me if we ended up having to pay to get him off the books.

A move to his homeland is probably the best move for Guido Rodriguez who clearly doesn’t have the pace and physicality to play in a top league. A move to River Plate would mean a link-up with former hammer Manuel Lanzini, who certainly left the club with nothing but positive messages, I don’t think that’ll be the case for Guido this summer with the majority of the fanbase excited to see the back of him and this season.
