West Ham U18’s ended their 24/25 campaign on a high, securing a 4-2 win against West Bromwich Albion and climbing up to ninth place in the Premier League South league table.

Josh Landers gave the Hammers the lead from the penalty spot nine minutes in after Andre Dike had been brought down by West Brom midfielder Dauda Amihere Iddrisa. West Brom responded quickly and equalised just two minutes later. Idrissa, who’s foul won the young Hammers their spot kick, took full advantage of a defensive mix up from West Ham to slot the ball past Finley Hooper.

West Ham looked as though they had done enough to go into half time with the score at 1-1. But in the 44th minute Rio Parmar fired home from close range to edge the Baggies in front and give them the lead going into the break.

After half time, Alfie Maughan missed a penalty for West Brom, and the Hammers made the visitors rue their missed spot kick. Elisha Sowunmi levelled from 12 yards, and with three minutes of normal time left, Sowunmi curled home a beautiful strike to bag his second of the game and make it 3-2 to West Ham.

Josh Landers was fouled in the box, winning West Ham their third penalty of the match in added time. Mehmet Halim scored from 12 yards to give the Hammers a fourth goal and successfully wrap up the three points.

Speaking after the game, U18’s assistant manager Zavon Hines was happy the young Hammers could end their campaign with a win. “We started well, then during the game we kind of dipped a little bit, but then to come out second half and then get a penalty save and then go on to win the game in that style, it’s really good.” said Hines.

Reflecting on the U18’s campaign as a whole, Hines told the Club’s media team: “I think it’s been a positive season. Obviously, especially winning the Premier League Cup, it’s always a good thing. In the league, we’ve been quite inconsistent result wise, but there are a lot of other factors that play a part in that.”
