West Ham midfielder James Ward Prowse is hopeful he can play his part in helping the Hammers break an 18 year winless run at Old Trafford in the Premier League this weekend.

A result against Ruben Amorim’s side would also help West Ham end their disappointing form of late. Graham Potter’s side are now eight games without a win in the Premier League. Their last win came against Leicester City at the end of February.

It has been a poor domestic campaign from United’s perspective also. Both teams have three games left to play this season, the Red Devils find themselves languishing in mid table just two places above the Hammers in 15th.

Despite a disappointing league season, United booked their place in the Europa League final following a semi final victory against Spanish side Athletic Bilbao over two legs. Ruben Amorim’s side will certainly be riding on a high going into Sunday’s meeting between the two sides. With the chance to end the season with a trophy and potential Champions League football next season, United’s mind may well be elsewhere.

Reflecting on a disappointing season and looking ahead to the game against Manchester United, West Ham midfielder James Ward Prowse said to the club’s Official Website: “It’s not been good enough recently, or all season, but there are three games left now and we have to put everything into them. Manchester United are up next, and going there is a really exciting challenge.”

The 30 year old midfielder added: “No matter what Manchester United team you go and face at Old Trafford, you know they can produce anything at any moment, especially coming off the back of their result on Thursday.”

Having won at Old Trafford previously when he was a Southampton player, Ward Prowse acknowledged the challenge ahead as well as the fine margins often needed in order to come away from Old Trafford with a result.

“When you go to Old Trafford, you need to play well, you need to have a good game plan, and you need a bit of luck. I think on the two occasions I’ve won there (with Southampton in January 2015 and January 2016), we’ve had that, and hopefully we’ll have the tools to do so again on Sunday.” said the Hammers midfielder.

Sunday’s game is a tough one to call, although Man United are riding on a high after reaching the Europa League final, similarly to West Ham they are also in poor league form. Ruben Amorim’s side are without a win in their last six Premier League matches.

With West Ham’s poor form of late, many supporters are mentally checked out and waiting for the season to end. Despite West Ham’s recent form, in some ways, there is arguably not a better time to play Manchester United at Old Trafford than currently.

The Europa League final is just ten days away, meaning United may not be all that focused on how their remaining league fixtures play out. If West Ham turn up, the key word being if, and maintain their performance levels across the 90 minutes they have a great chance of leaving Old Trafford with three points.

It’s important West Ham pick up some positive results in their remaining three games. This would give Graham Potter’s side the chance to take some momentum forward with them into next season and end this dismal season with a couple more results to smile about.
