Vladimir Coufal is set to leave West Ham at the end of the season when his contract expires. This could give Everton an opportunity to snap up the 32 year old Czech International and for Coufal to be reunited with his former manager David Moyes.

After leaving West Ham at the end of last season, David Moyes took a break for several months before rejoining former club Everton. Moyes previously managed Everton for 11 years between 2002-2013. Since returning to Everton, Moyes has steadied the ship with Everton currently sat 13th with two games left to play.

With new owners at Everton and the Toffees moving in to a new stadium, Moyes will be hoping he’ll be backed in the summer transfer window so the club can build on their progress this season as they begin life at their new home.

Moyes signed Coufal for West Ham back in 2020. The fullback, at the time of writing, has made 178 appearances for the Hammers. Joining as a relative unknown from the Czech league for just £5 million, the 32 year old has proved to be a great signing and an excellent piece of business.

Coufal could have left the Hammers in the January window after Fulham tabled a deadline day bid to try and land the former Slavia Prague man, but West Ham were unwilling to let the fullback leave.

The Czech international has mainly featured off the bench this season following the arrival of Aaron Wan Bissaka, speaking to Czech media about Fulham’s failed bid, Coufal discussed how he would have been willing to move given he is no longer a regular starter in East London: “Fulham offered great conditions. Karol (Kisel, Coufal’s agent) asked: ‘Would you like it ?’ I said: ‘Why not, if there’s no use at West Ham'”.

West Ham recently announced that Coufal, along with Aaron Cresswell, Danny Ings, and Lukasz Fabianski, will all be leaving the club when their contracts expire. Discussing his future in interviews in recent months, Coufal has maintained that his preference would be to stay in England and move to another Premier League club.

“When I am free (a free agent), anything can happen. But my priority is England, the best league in the world. I want to prove myself week after week that I have what it takes.” said Coufal speaking to iDNES in March, as reported in Goodison News.

A move to Everton and reuniting with the man who brought him to the Premier League would make a lot of sense as a next step in Coufal’s career. From Everton’s perspective, signing a fullback with close to 150 Premier League appearances, who’s played previously under Moyes, and who still has a lot to offer, on a free, would be a shrewd bit of business to strengthen their backline ahead of next season.

Coufal has been a great servant to West Ham since joining the club in late 2020. The Czech international has bought into the club’s culture, knows what it means to play for West Ham and has always given one hundred percent every time he’s worn the shirt.

A great player on his day, a real danger going forward, and a true professional blessed with excellent mentality and a brilliant work rate, it will be a shame seeing someone like Coufal who has built a solid relationship with the fans leave West Ham. However, with West Ham needing to reduce the average age of their squad, and Coufal making no secret of the fact he’d be open to moving on in recent months, his impending departure makes sense for both parties.

Wherever the Czech international does decide to move on to next, Hammer fans will all be undoubtedly wishing him the very best in the next chapter of his career.
