West Ham United will save a fortune in wages after the announcement of the departure of four first-team players.
The club announced this week that Lukasz Fabianski, Aaron Cresswell, Vladimir Coufal, and Danny Ings will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer.
Fabianski is on a reported £65,000 a week, Cresswell £50,000, Coufal £35,000, and Danny Ings is one of our highest paid players on a reported staggering £125,000 a week.
This will save the club 275,000 on wages a week, which totals to £14.3m over a calendar year.
This may yet even be extended further with Michail Antonio’s contract also expiring this summer. The club has yet to decide on the 35-year-old’s future. Antonio has spent 10 years in East London and scored some very important goals, which have made him a legend at the club.
He hasn’t played since suffering a broken leg in a car crash in December. While he has recovered well so far, the club is unsure if he can play football at the top level again.
However, they also don’t want to hang him out to dry after going through what would have been one of the toughest periods of his life after the car crash.
Nevertheless, the Hammers will be saving a lot of money and getting rid of some aging fringe players. Graham Potter will be hoping can replace these players with more young and hungry players on much lower wages.
West Ham seem to be targeting young players from the lesser leagues in Belgium and the Netherlands – Mario Stroeykens of Anderlecht as well as Raphael Onyedika and Joel Ordonez of Club Brugge, are some names that have been mentioned recently.
