Patrice Evra praises former West Ham teammate Declan Rice, saying he isn’t surprised about what he’s gone on to do.
Manchester United legend Patrice Evra had a very forgettable short stint at West Ham United during David Moyes’ first stint at the club.
The former Juventus left-back played for the Hammers for just four months between February and May 2018. The Frenchman started three matches and we conceded four goals in every single one of them, losing to Swansea, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
However, maybe Evra’s impact at West Ham wasn’t all bad. In an interview, he recently spoke about Declan Rice and how he helped the Champions League star become what he became at West Ham, and has gone on to do at Arsenal.
Evra said, “I loved Declan.” And when asked whether he felt Rice could go to the very top, Evra replied: “Yes, yeah. Do you know why?
“Because of his humility. That’s it. If you ask me, he needed to improve a lot of his game, too many touches, but he always had the engine.
“And I remember one day, Declan came to me and said, ‘Patrice, thank you so much, every time you speak, all your words – I’m absorbing it, please tell me if you see me doing the wrong things’.
“He’s so humble, and such a nice person, but a hard worker. Declan, I’m not surprised the player he’s become. Now I think he’s even better, clinical, scoring more goals, he’s generous.”
