West Ham’s 2-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford has given players, coaches and supporters a much needed lift after a poor run of results. Hammers defender Max Kilman believes the result against United can set the tone for a positive end to the season.
The 27 year old has been a mainstay in the Hammers side this season and has featured in all 36 of the Club’s Premier League matches. It was a good display from the former Wolves man away at Old Trafford at the weekend. He topped the statistics for both clearances and tackles, more than playing his part in helping Graham Potter’s side secure a clean sheet, and highlighting his role in keeping the hosts at bay.
Speaking to the Club’s media team post match, the 27 year old was full of praise for the performance of his teammates. The win away against Manchester United was a first win in eight for Graham Potter’s side. Kilman discussed how he is hopeful this can give the squad the boost needed to end what has been an underwhelming campaign on a high in the Hammers remaining two fixtures.
“I think all of us deserve it. We were working really hard. The last couple of months have been tough, but we stuck together.” said the centre back.
Kilman added: “We were working really hard in training and Sunday was a big reward that paid off, especially winning and getting a clean sheet at Old Trafford. It’s something that doesn’t happen often, so credit to everyone and we’re all very, very pleased.”
With the season drawing to a close, Kilman is eager to see the Hammers end their campaign on a high and take some momentum forward with them into the start of next season.
“We’ve got two more games where we can really end the season on a high. I think these are important to really build on for next season. I think finishing the season strong is always important coming into the next season, so I think that’s our aim and that’s definitely the target for us.”
