Guido Rodriguez could stay at West Ham next season, despite talk suggesting he was set to leave the club.

The Argentinian midfielder has had far from a good debut season at the club, only playing 34% of available minutes in the Premier League. The majority of those came under Julen Lopetegui, but under Potter he has been frozen out until the last couple of games.

It was suggested that Guido regretted joining the club, he was set to join Barcelona under Xavi, however, when he was sacked the Blaugrana opted not to sign the midfielder. So, he would understandably be full or regret as his move to West Ham didn’t seem like it was going to work out.

However, it seems as though Rodriguez has been handed a chance by Graham Potter towards the end of the season to earn himself a place in the squad for pre-season.

Rodriguez started his first match under Potter at Old Trafford a couple of weeks ago, which led to heavy criticism of the former Brighton boss. However, he really impressed while he was on the pitch as we won 2-0, earning himself another starts against Nottingham Forest. It will be interesting to see if he starts again on the final day away at Ipswich.

Ahead of the Forest clash, Guido spoke to the club about his experiences at the club so far. He said, “This season didn’t work out. But not every season can be successful. I think we have to make the necessary self-criticism when the league is over and look at the positives for what is to come, for next year, to be able to compete better.”

Rodriguez has been linked with a move to River Plate and a return to Real Betis, however, this recent interview suggests him leaving isn’t 100% confirmed, and he could be part of Graham Potter’s squad next term.
