Aaron Cresswell will play his final match for West Ham United this afternoon as we travel to Portman Road to face the team he left to join the Hammers eleven years ago, Ipswich Town.
Many Hammers fans are excited for this game, not because they want to see their team play, but because it’s the final game of a very poor season.
However, one thing we aren’t looking forward to is saying our final goodbyes to Aaron Cresswell.
The 35-year-old didn’t quite get the send off he deserved by the club and the home fans last Sunday against Forest, and I have no doubt the away fans will make it a more then special goodbye for the departing heroes this afternoon.
“The chances of me leaving Ipswich for West Ham eleven years ago and then playing my last West Ham game at Portman Road must’ve been pretty slim!” Cresswell said. “It’s mad!
“It’s a really special feeling going into it, and it’s an occasion I’m really looking forward to. I had some great times at Ipswich, and I haven’t been back for a competitive game since I left, so it is going to be special.
“It’s my last game for West Ham, and I have spent a lot of this last week reflecting. It’s gone so fast, but I never thought I’d be here for eleven years and I’m just so grateful for such a special time.
“My connection with the fans means so much to me, and I’ll be doing everything I can for them and the team to get the win this weekend.”
While this game means nothing apart from maybe finishing as high as 15th with a win, everyone is hoping we can put on a show to maybe get us more excited about what’s to come next season.
