Graham Potter gives a huge update into Michail Antonio’s recovery and his future at the club.

The rate that Michail Antonio has recovered from his horror car crash will never cease to amaze. Not only is he lucky to be able to walk again, he’s lucky to be alive.

In the face of all odds, it looks certain that Antonio will play professional football again at the top level.

With the season drawing to a close, many fans have been eager to hear whether he’ll be back in time for preseason. Well, Graham Potter has certainly seemed to suggest so. “He’s training back with the team. Bit by bit, he’s getting stronger. Yes [he’s kicking balls again]. He’s getting there. He’s not back to 100 per cent, of course, but from where he was to where he is now, it’s incredible steps he’s taken,” Potter said.

However, while great for him personally, from a Hammers perspective it doesn’t really matter if he’s back for preseason if he doesn’t sign a new deal, something Potter wasn’t willing to speak on. “Out of respect for Mich, I wouldn’t want to speak about his contract situation.”

“As I’ve said before, it’s a unique situation because of what he’s had to deal with. I think the club are trying their best to accommodate that and to understand that.”
