It has been a long and challenging season for West Ham. Graham Potter had a tough job on his hands taking over a side midway through the season languishing in mid table and low on confidence. That being said, the Hammers have certainly not enjoyed a new manager bounce compared to the likes of Everton and Wolves, struggling to pick up results or get any sort of momentum behind them since the arrival of the former Chelsea and Brighton man.
With what looks likely to be an incredibly busy summer transfer window, many players have been linked with moves away from East London, including French defender Jean Clair Todibo who joined the club last summer.
There have been rumours in recent months that West Ham may look to immediately sell the centre back on for profit once his loan move, which includes a £36.3 million obligation to buy, becomes a permanent deal.
Following West Ham’s final home game of the season, a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Todibo took to his Instagram. The caption to his post on the social media site read: “Final home game of the season. Huge thanks to the fans – see you next season.”
Although potential uncertainty may have surrounded his long term future previously, Todibo’s Instagram post indicates he expects to remain in East London next season.
Among Hammers fans it is fair to say the jury is still out on the Frenchman. He has certainly shown glimpses of his quality, however he has been part of an incredibly poor West Ham defence. Arguably the only bright spark in a otherwise disappointing Hammers back line has been Aaron Wan Bissaka, the former Manchester United man’s consistent performances have seen him named Hammer of the Year in his debut season at West Ham.
Todibo has made 26 appearances in the Premier League in his debut campaign. The former Nice and Barcelona man had a spell out on the sidelines earlier this season and there have been concerns over his fitness as Todibo has struggled to consistently complete 90 minutes.
With Graham Potter’s defence likely to be revamped, and with Todibo looking likely to stay in East London, the Frenchman will need to perform at a higher level more consistently in the heart of the Hammers defence if the Club are to enjoy a better campaign next season and improve on what will be a disappointing mid table finish this season.
