Jean-Clair Todibo has been ridiculed by West Ham fans after making a mistake leading to Ipswich’s goal on Sunday.
Ipswich Town equalised against West Ham on Sunday and Jean-Clair Todibo was at fault. Nathan Broadhead picked up the ball twenty yards from goal and drove at the Hammers defence.
Todibo made an absolutely awful attempt to win the ball, almost kneeling down and letting the attacker beat him before beating Fabianski in the bottom left corner with an excellent finish.
There have been a few things not to like about Todibo this season, the worst of all being his availability. The Frenchman has only completed eleven full-nineties this season, in most games he is substituted on the hour mark because of his fitness.
He has only played in 54% of the minutes available for West Ham in the Premier League this season, less than Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has been one of, it not our worst player this season.
However, while his form and availability has been a massive problem this term. Todibo has had some good games and does look like he can improve massively. He was an unbelievable defender at Nice when he was in a settled backline, if we can get that this season then he will have all the chances to thrive next term.
It would be silly to give up on him after this season because you’d be giving up on almost every player apart from Bowen, Wan-Bissaka and Soucek otherwise. Todibo deserves to start next season with an almost clean slate, like we need to do with Graham Potter.
However, if Manchester United are still interested and are willing to give us more than we paid, it would be great business to sell him. Potter can invest that money in a couple of defenders on his shortlist, however, that looks very unlikely to happen as things stand.
