Graham Potter is facing a monumental task at West Ham this summer, which is one that has many feeling anxious, but also with an element of excitement.

West Ham have demonstrated once again this season, that we are a side in major need of repair and re-energising. An old squad, with old ideas which carries a significant hangover from the previous 2 years of seriously under achieving in the top-flight.

Make no mistake, West Ham were lucky this season to avoid a return to the 2nd tier of English football. Had it not been for 3 very poor sides and Jarrod Bowen, it could have been a disaster in east London.

However, that didn’t materialise and the club are still one that will be competing in the Premier League next season, with a view to turn to slide and get back amongst those fighting at the right end of the table.

To do this though, West Ham have to go through a rebuild on a scale that has not been seen in east London before, with the likes of 12-15 senior players set to depart and be replaced – to align with the vison of Potter.

Much attention is around the midfield at present, with it clear this season it needs tearing up and starting again. However, there is an argument that the backline needs the same amount of focus.
Despite West Ham having a centre back pair worth £80m, it’s become evident that Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo are far from a safe pair of hands.

Kilman was brought to the club by former boss Julen Lopetegui, however there must be some serious question marks at the club whether its best to cash in and move on, with Kilman looking more like Matthew Upson every time he plays.

Todibo too is one that have many concerned and more-so confused, with the player still not looking fit despite playing at the club for an entire season. His Jekyll & Hyde performances too are worrying – which leads many to believe that Potter will be looking to offload.

As we head into unchartered waters, its hard to see how things are set to pan out, as we watch on as our new-ish manager and Head of Recruitment get to work, with David Sullivan not far behind.
Only time will tell how this story pans out, but one thing is for certain – it shan’t be a quiet and relaxing summer in the sun for us Hammers, as we yearn to dream once again.
