Michail Antonio is understood to be training with the Jamaica national team, despite missing most of the season recovering from a car accident.

It can never be denied that the West Ham forward has been a remarkable signing for the club, when he moved from Nottingham Forest back in 2015, where he has become the clubs record Premier League scorer.

It is his status and achievements at the club which has undoubtedly been a factor in the club making a decision to offer the West Ham number 9 a new short term contract, as he continues his recovery from a car accident he sustained back in December last year.

However, his call to once again put playing for Jamaica at the heart of his decision making is one that needs to be questioned.

The fact is, Antonio is lucky to be alive. Let alone be in a position to be offered a new deal at a club like West Ham in the Premier League, despite still not recovered from injury.

There is clearly a lack of desire to sign the deal, with it understood that the player wants a more lucrative offer to be tabled by West Ham.

Now he has made the call to once again put playing for Jamaica so high on the priority list, leans me to think it’s best to just cut ties and bid farewell.

Getting fit and being available for West Ham is clearly not top of the agenda, which will I’m sure steer Graham Potter away from wanting Antonio to be a key player at the club next season.

It’s a case that it’s been an incredible and romantic football journey, for a player who should be seen as a legend. Before this route by Antonio continues to be taken, it’s best to draw a line, and keep that status amongst fans in place, before its too late.
