West Ham boss Graham Potter could be under huge pressure if he and Head of recruitment Kyle Macauley do not ace the transfer window this summer.
The current West Ham squad is ageing and lacks anything to get excited about ahead of next season, players need to be sold and players need to be signed before August.
Players like Mohammed Kudus, Guido Rodriguez, Edson Alvarez and Konstantinos Mavropanos have to be moved on and replaced with younger players that fit Graham Potter’s style.
The Irons squad has gone stale, we need to bring in players that are hungrier to succeed and improve. We haven’t seen that from hardy any of the squad since David Moyes left, or even before that when the Scotsman was still here. It seemed like we could only get up for the European games towards the end of his tenure.
The players we’ve been linked to like Ardon Jashiri, Raphael Onyedika and Liam Delap are exactly the type of players we should be targeting to almost rebuild the squad. However, a lot of teams with European football are aware of these players and are interested, so Potter and Macauley need to make sure they are prepared to sign alternatives.
If Macauley is fully prepared, and you’d think he is due to his prior experience and work, and we have a great window in which Potter gets players he wants. We could completely turn our fortunes around and have a great season next year. However, if we can’t get deals done, it could get even more worse than it is now.
Potter is far from on thin ice, however, the pressure is on, and if we start next season the way we’ve played under Potter so far, he could well be out the door before November.
