Former England International striker Darren Bent backs Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap to join West Ham this summer.
It seems like Liam Delap has interest from over half of the Premier League, before the transfer window has even opened. With a least ten teams set to be interested in his signature due to his £30m release clause, it’s going to be tough for him to make the right choice.
A few days ago it looked like he was edging closer to a move to Manchester United, however, the Red Devils seemed to have cooled their interest a bit to focus on moves for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo. Chelsea have also been heavily linked to the Manchester City academy graduate, however, they seem to have their eye on bigger fish as things stand.
Delap needs to make sure his next move is the right one, and he is being urged to snub a move to a super club Chelsea and United a move to a club where he is guaranteed more game time whether that be in the Premier League or a abroad.
Former Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent believes the 22-year-old should stay in the Premier League, but stay away from the ‘Top 6 ‘ clubs.
Bent said: “Yeah, I do like him (Liam Delap). He’s done well. He’s done really well, but I think the next move has got to be right for him.
“He’s got all the attributes. He’s only 22 years old. But, again, if you’re expecting him to lead the line at a massive football club and score 20, 25 goals…Everton, West Ham, there has got to be a middle ground before you take that big jump.
“If I were him, I would not be going [to Manchester United] at the moment. I would not,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT a fortnight ago. “I wouldn’t stay at Ipswich [either]. I would go to a West Ham.
“Go and prove yourself at a West Ham, the next step. They need a striker, Evan Ferguson will go back to Brighton. He hasn’t worked out. They are desperate for a striker.”
The Hammers will be in for a striker this summer. Danny Ings is leaving and Michail Antonio’s future is up in the air, which could mean an injury prone Niclas Fullkrug is our only senior striker. The Hammers need a striker that can fit Potter’s system and stay fit, and that man could well be Liam Delap.
Only Jarrod Bowen in the West Ham squad scored more Premier League goals with 13, compared to Delap’s 12. One of Graham Potter’s biggest jobs is to take the goalscoring burden off of Jarrod Bowen, the 28-year-old was involved in 46% of West Ham’s goals this season.
