West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd will leave the club this summer, and he could be on his way to Marseille or Bayer Leverkusen.

The Hammers need to raise funds ahead of the transfer window and what better way to do that than to sell an aging, wantaway defender that wasn’t even a the club this season for a decent fee.

Aguerd spent this season out on loan at Real Sociedad, he impressed in the first half of the season even being labelled as the best centre back in La Liga by some pundits.

He looked set to be in demand by other bigger La Liga clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona, but a not so good second half of the campaign meant those links have lessened. However, he has still been linked to some great clubs in Atletico Madrid, Marseille and Bayer Leverkusen in recent days.

According to Foot Mercato, Marseille have made signing Aguerd a top priority transfer target are have opened discussions with his representatives. The Moroccan is also reportedly open to a return to France this summer. The same source also says Aguerd is on Bayer Leverkusen’s shortlist for a central defender signing to replace the outgoing Jonathan Tah.

To have three clubs potentially fighting over a player everyone knows we want to sell is very helpful, we know we aren’t going to get the £30m we paid for him, but to get anything over £20m for him would be a pretty good sale, and that isn’t something we do well usually.

Hopefully, we can get a sale done early so we can get moving faster to bring in the players Graham Potter and Kyle Macauley want to move the club forward.
