Niclas Füllkrug admits it was a tough season for West Ham and him personally in an Instagram post reflecting on his first campaign in England.
After three goals and 2 assists in 20 matches and a 15th-place finish in his first season in English football, Niclas Füllkrug took to Instagram to reflect upon a difficult first 12 months in claret and blue.
The German striker said: “Before the quick turnaround to the national team, I just wanted to leave a short message to all you Hammers fans:
The past season wasn’t easy – a lot of ups and downs, both for us as a team and for me, personally, especially with my injuries. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to perform the way I had hoped.
“But even when things didn’t go our way, your support never wavered. Thank you for always standing behind us!”
There certainly haven’t been many players who have won the hearts of Hammers fans this season, but if there were to be one, it would be Fullkrug. Not for his performances on the pitch, but for what he’s done off of it.
He gained the respect of a large proportion of the Irons faithful when he called out his teammates after conceding a late equaliser at home to rock bottom of the league Southampton in April.
Füllkrug has also spoken on how keen he is to make it work at West Ham, he’s unlikely to have a huge role in the team next season because a striker will be signed. Potter sees him as a back-up striker, someone that can make an impact off the bench, but he will be hoping he can play his way into the starting eleven.
