Lucas Paqueta’s spot fixing has concluded but the Brazilian has been told he will have to wait at least another month for a verdict.
The 27-year-old has been under investigation by the FA since August 2023 before being charged almost a year later in May 2024. However, more than a year after the that they still haven’t announced the verdict.
He has been charged with four counts of being deliberately booked (getting a yellow card) to influence betting markets and two of failing to cooperate with its investigation.
The accusations cost Paqueta his dream £80m transfer to Manchester City two years a go, the Citizens were set to make a move but they dropped their interest as soon as the news came to light.
The investigation was supposed to last 10 months, so it should have been concluded in March, However, the disciplinary proceedings have been subject to delays. Proceedings were adjourned in April because lawyers on bot sides had other engagements,
The proceedings continued last month but the Hammers and Paqueta are fuming that it’s barely closer to a conclusion. It’s now likely to drag for at least another month or two according to reports. This will disrupt yet another transfer window, leaving Graham Potter uncertain over whether or not Graham Potter will have a key player in his squad next season.
Almost two years on from the original allegations, Lucas Paqueta still denies any wrongdoing so it is still very intriguing to see what the verdict is going to be.
