West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville could give Graham Potter a huge boost as he is set to return from injury in pre-season.
West Ham have had a quiet start to the window compared to some other clubs; no players have been sold, and no players have been signed. However, the return of Crysencio Summerville will feel like a new signing for Graham Potter.
Summerville played just once under Potter, in his first match in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa. The Dutchman looked very exciting playing in a new position, he was playing at right wing-back. However, after a bright start and an assist for Paqueta’s goal, the 23-year-old was forced off at half-time with a hamstring injury.
The injury was only supposed to keep him out for a couple of months. However, his reluctance to have surgery and a setback meant he missed the rest of the season, and could even still yet miss the start of next season.
Summerville is excited to get back involved with the Hammers, after his surgery he said: “First of all thank you God. Everything went well with the surgery.
“Hammers, it wasn’t the season we hoped for, but we will be back next season to give our all for the club and the fans.
“On a personal note, I will focus on my recovery and my comeback now, and I can’t wait to be back and show you guys the magic you’ve been waiting for. I see you guys soon! CS COYI.”
West Ham are hopeful Summerville will be fit to take part in our pre-season tour of America; however, there is also still a chance he could miss the start of next season too.
Nevertheless, having Summerville back will be a massive boost for Graham Potter and West Ham fans. Our lack of a real left-winger has shown since Summerville’s injury; Mo Kudus has failed to show what he’s capable of out of position this season, so he mustn’t be relied upon to start every game on the left wing again.
