Coming off the back of a campaign that fell well short of expectations, West Ham are expected to make a number of additions this summer to strengthen their squad ahead of the 25/26 season.

Improving their midfield options will be a key priority for Graham Potter and the Club’s recruitment team this summer.

With a clear need to reduce the average age of the squad, one player who could fit the bill is Liverpool’s Harvey Elliot. The 22 year old is expected to leave Liverpool this summer and is someone who aligns with what the Hammers are looking for.

Elliot made 28 appearances in all competitions last season, but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in the league, making just two Premier League starts. There has been much speculation over the midfielders future in recent weeks, many reports suggest he is likely to be on the move this summer.

The 22 year old has already been linked with a host of Premier League sides including the likes of Bournemouth, Wolves and Nottingham Forest. West Ham have also been tipped as a potential suitor for the England U21 international.

Stuart Pearce, spoke on TalkSport recently about Elliot’s future and how a move to West Ham would suit the 22 year old and also be good business from the Hammers perspective.

“When Klopp left, he said: ‘I should have played Harvey Elliot a bit more’. That was one of the statements he made. He identified the talent of him and identified that he didn’t play him enough. He hasn’t played enough this year once again. I think that would be a good move for both parties (if he joined West Ham).” said Pearce.

While Harvery Elliot would certainly be a strong addition to West Ham’s squad, reports suggest Liverpool would demand a significant fee for the midfielder. Given the growing noise from the Club’s hierarchy that West Ham need to offload players before making any moves in the transfer window, a high priced deal for Elliot may ultimately be out of reach this summer.

At 22, Elliot represents the exact kind of profile West Ham need to target moving forward, young, with top level experience and room to develop further. A signing such as Elliot would signal a shift in approach, showing a willingness from the Club to plan for the long term as much as the short term.
