Any potential transfer window disaster is completely on the West Ham board.
It’s widely accepted amongst West Ham fans, although there’s been no real confirmation, that stories that come out of the club aren’t always 100% accurate. Whether it be phantom bids, or a constant deflection away from the board, there are so many lies that get spread regarding the Hammers.
Although many of us would now agree that Tim Steidten was ultimately a failure, the rhetoric of him being this almost shady character who was only out for himself started being pushed extremely early on, and that certainly didn’t come from the fans.
Now, Claret and Hugh have reported that if we are to have a poor transfer window, the responsibility lies entirely with the board. They have left Kyle Macaulay to talk with agents and players, something he has no experience in, while also not providing the funds to actually sign anyone with.
Year after year we see this board fail to grasp opportunities to push on to the next level. Appointing cheap managers, signing players due to agents and not talent, as well as constant falsehoods being spread – this is all starting to get ridiculous.
It’s too early in the window to panic, but Claret and Hugh are absolutely spot on in their assessment; the board are responsible for whatever mess comes in the following months.
The only thing we can hope is that Sullivan is pulling his usual trick of claiming we don’t have funds to get better deals but, from an outside perspective, it feels different this time. Even then, this doesn’t excuse the other incompetencies.
