West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd looks likely to stay at West Ham next season, despite his desire to leave the club.
The Hammers want to sell players this summer to raise funds to purchase new players, and Nayef Aguerd was high on that list of players to sell due to his value and role at the club.
Aguerd had a good season on loan at Real Sociedad in La Liga last season. He excelled in the first half of the season, being linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona; however, his form dropped off slightly in the second half of the campaign.
However, while those two Spanish giants are no longer interested, he has still been linked to some huge clubs, in Atletico Madrid, Roma, Marseille, and Juventus. You would think having these clubs interested would cause a bidding war, but that hasn’t been the case.
While we haven’t received an official offer for the defender, the rumoured offer from Juventus was well under what we want and included Daniele Rugani, a player we don’t want to sign.
If we don’t get what we want for Aguerd, which is rumoured to be upwards of £20m. He will be staying at the club. Graham Potter is said to be a big fan of the Moroccan because of his quality on the ball, and is happy to keep him and try to make it work. Potter only wanted to move him on because he wants to leave, and we need to raise funds to spend elsewhere.
