Former West Ham striker Michail Antonio has returned to the club, despite not signing a new contract.

Antonio suffered a broken leg in a car crash back in December, which kept him out of action until last month, when he featured for Jamaica in the Gold Cup.

Despite his recovery, the Hammers didn’t want to extend Antonio’s contract on his current terms because they were not sure if he would be able to get back to his standards before the injury, and those standards were already dropping.

There was probably every chance that Antonio would have left the club like Cresswell, Fabianski, and Coufal did at the end of the season, if he hadn’t have been involved in the crash. However, the club wanted to support Antonio to a full recovery, so they offered him a short-term contract.

However,  the 35-year-old wasn’t happy with the offer as he wanted to sign on for at least a year, so he rejected the deal. He has reportedly had other offers, or he could even yet stay at West Ham.

But at the moment, he remains without a club. However, the club has granted the veteran full access to the Rush Green gym and training facilities as he works on regaining full fitness following injury.

A classy move from the club, and we hope they can somehow go a step further by giving Antonio the send-off he deserves before he goes on to play for another club, because he is our highest Premier League goalscorer and an undeniable club legend.
