West Ham and Everton have joined Burnley in the race to sign free agent Josh Brownhill this summer.

The 29-year-old captained Burnley to automatic promotion last season, but he didn’t sign a new deal at Turf Moor. Following an excellent season in which he scored 16 Championship goals, he wants to ensure he makes the best decision for his career.

Reports suggest Brownhill wants to see what Burnley’s ambitions are like in the transfer market, so he doesn’t spend another season fighting relegation in the English top flight. The midfielder was part of Vincent Kompany’s team that collected just 24 points during the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, and was also relegated under Sean Dyche in 2021/22.

It looked very likely early in the window that Brownhill was going to become a West Ham United player. However, it never really materialised. He is seen as an option we can make a move for at the. end of the window if we have no money left to sign Potter’s younger and more exciting targets.

However, we may be too late. David Moyes and Everton are interested in making a move for the Englishman, and they could act soon if they want him in time for pre-season. Everton probably have a more exciting project to offer and have more ambition than both West Ham and Burnley, with the new stadium and signing exciting players like Thierno Barry from Villarreal.
