After scoring the winner in Mexico’s Gold Cup win, it is the perfect time for West Ham to sell Edson Alvarez.
West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez has had the perfect summer after a poor season at West Ham, he captained his country to Gold Cup victory and won player of the tournament for his performances along the way.
The 27-year-old scored twice, provided an assist and helped Mexico keep four clean sheets in six matches as El Tri made it back-to-back Gold Cup tournament victories.
Alvarez’s recent success for his National team could now mean he gets some interest in the transfer market. The Hammers want to reshuffle the pack in midfield this summer, but they have to sell before doing so, and Edson Alvarez is one player Graham Potter would like to move o for the right price and now could be the perfect time to sell.
Despite a poor season last time out, Edson Alvarez still has a stellar reputation around Europe and his recent performances have only added to that. So, it would be surprising if there wasn’t any interest in his signature.
Previously, Graham Potter probably would have expected to receive a fee of around £20m to sell the Mexican, however, after excelling at the Gold Cup, he could well have put a few million on his price tag.
Since scoring the winner in the Gold Cup final vs USA, Alvarez has already been linked with a move to AC Milan. The Italians are looking for midfield reinforcements after selling Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City before the Club World Cup.
