West Ham United are interested in a double swoop for Liverpool midfielders Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton, according to La Gazzetta Dello Sport.
The place on the pitch where West Ham struggled the most last season as the midfield, where we got completely overrun on too many occasions under Lopetegui, and Potter played it too safe because of the lack of quality.
The owners and Kyle Macauley need to do all they can to give Potter that quality in midfield and the players he wants so he can get the team playing how he wants them to, and we need to sign at least two midfielders to do that. Liverpool duo Harvey Elliot and Tyler Morton could be the ones for Potter.
The former has been one of the most talked-about players over the summer in England because of his excellent performances for England in the U21 Euros. The 22-year-old was awarded the player of the tournament award as he bagged 5 goals in just 475 minutes as England were crowned champions.
Tyler Morton, also 22, really failed to make an impact at Liverpool last season, after succeeding on loan at Hull City in 23/24. He only made 5 appearances, with zero of those coming in the Premier League; he needed another loan.
Arne Slot is reportedly willing to let both players leave this summer. Harvey Elliott is expected to cost around £40m, with Brighton also interested. While Morton could be available for around £10m. Morton is the type of midfielder West Ham needs in their squad, but I believe the priority has to be a more mobile midfielder.
Elliott can play in central midfield; however, he is at his best in the attacking positions. We need a left winger, but he’s better on the right. However, his long-term future is likely to be in the attacking midfield, so I can only see us making a move if Lucas Paqueta is banned or sold.
