Reports have suggested West Ham have their sights set on Girona right back Arnau Martinez, with the 22 year old emerging as a serious option as the Hammers look to strengthen their defensive options this summer.

Caught Offside have reported sources are indicating the Hammers have entered into talks with the player and his representatives. The release clause in Martinez’ Girona contract is said to stand at a little under 15 million euros. West Ham are actively weighing up whether they should potentially trigger the 22 year old’s release clause.

It is thought the Club has their eyes on other players in this position who they could still look to actively pursue moves for this summer. Martinez is believed to be open to a move away from Girona this transfer window, though any decision regarding a potential move would likely hinge on assurances over his role within the West Ham team as well as a clear understanding of the Club’s vision.

That being said, the lure of playing Premier League football could be a major factor in Martinez’s decision making and prove too good of an opportunity for the fullback to turn down.

Should negotiations advance, agreeing personal terms are not expected to be an issue. Sources close to the situation have indicated Martinez is in no rush to commit and would need clear assurances from any interested parties before making a final decision on his future.

Martinez is attracting interest from a number of top clubs across Europe, meaning he will likely remain a player in high demand as the transfer window progresses.

Aaron Wan Bissaka has nailed down the Hammers starting right back position after a fantastic debut season in claret and blue. Whilst bringing in another right back isn’t necessarily one of West Ham’s main priorities this summer, bringing in a capable full back to provide competition for Wan Bissaka, especially following the departure of Vladimir Coufal, makes plenty of sense.
