West Ham prioritising goalkeeper over defender following their first signing.

Diouf is now, finally, a West Ham player. While a left back wasn’t top of many people’s priority list, with Emerson looking likely to depart it’s certainly an area they needed to add to.

Unfortunately, there’s still not much confidence that West Ham’s defence will be any better than last season.

While much of the blame can be placed on central defenders, the number of goals Areola conceded compared to Fabianski is frightening given he’s our first-choice now.

Reports have suggested that a goalkeeper is now one of, if not, the top priorities now.

Given that there’s no obvious second choice, it makes sense. To me, we simply must find someone better than Areola. As much as he makes some world class saves, he has some howlers too. He also lacks authority over his defenders, is awful at claiming crosses, and is poor with the ball at his feet.

We need someone young, hungry, and modern to fit Potter‘s system.
