El Hadji Malick Diouf and Ollie Scarles will hold down the left-back spot at West Ham next season and for years to come.

West Ham United have a lot of work to do this summer, but probably the only place in the squad that doesn’t need any more work is LB/LWB. Graham Potter has new signing Diouf and academy star Ollie Scarles for the position.

The Hammers also have Emerson; however, Potter is expected to rely on the youngsters and sell the Italian international. The 30-year-old has remained in London rather than going to Germany for pre-season to try and sort out a move. Rumours suggest he has rejected some interested teams, but he is still looking for a move elsewhere.

Diouf is expected to be the starter; he has to be after signing for just under £20m. However, if for some reason he doesn’t perform or he takes a while to settle in, Ollie Scarles is ready to step up.

The 19-year-old had some excellent performances and some weak performances last season, but his potential is clear to see; he needs to get more game time next season, and being the second choice will mean he will get more games.

We still need to bring some depth on the right, with only Aaron Wan-Bissaka an option at RWB. Kyle Walker-Peter has left Southampton and is available on a free. He would be a very smart signing for the Hammers, he can also play on the left if needed.
