West Ham Women have announced their first signing of the summer, with 20 year old midfielder Sarah Brasero joining the club from Portuguese side Estoril Praia on a three year contract.

Brasero spent last season playing her football in Portugal, gaining valuable experience abroad. Now, the young midfielder is eager to make her mark for West Ham in the WSL.

An England U23 international, she came through the ranks at Ipswich Town and also had a spell with Women’s Championship side Lewes FC before her move overseas.

Speaking to the West Ham website after Brasero’s signing was announced, manager Rehanne Skinner was delighted the Hammers have been able to secure an exciting young talent in the 20 year old midfielder. Skinner also spoke of her excitement at working with Brasero to help her fulfil her potential.

“Sarah is an exciting homegrown talent, with a hard working attitude and a real desire to learn and improve. Having played in the England age group squads for a number of years, it’s clear that she has a lot of potential.” said Skinner to the clubs Official Website.

The Hammers boss went on to add: “We have no doubt Sarah’s creativity will add huge value to our squad and I look forward to working with her to fulfil that potential.”

West Ham Women had a positive 2024/25 season. However, a disappointing end to the campaign meant they finished the season 9th in the WSL. Up until the later stages of the campaign the Hammers had certainly looked on course to finish a few places higher up the WSL table. The Hammers definitely have things to build on from last season, such as their excellent home form.

The WSL league table remains tightly contested. From West Ham’s perspective, investing in promising youngsters and ultimately their development in the long run could prove crucial to allowing the Hammers to kick on and push for a higher finish in the WSL.
