Kyle Walker-Peters will likely become a West Ham United this week, after a ‘Here we go!’ from Fabrizio Romano.
KWP has been a long-term target for West Ham, mainly under David Moyes, but David Sullivan is said to be a huge fan of the 28-year-old.
It looked likely we would make a move for him at the start of the window, however, while Potter is a fan of the player he wanted to prioritise other signings.
We have signed Diouf, Potter’s main full-back target, but we also needed some depth for right-back, and we are short of money, so Potter and the club have now opted to make a move for the former Southampton and Spurs full-back.
He looked likely to join Turkish side Besiktas, with his travel to Istanbul booked, however, a late offer from West Ham has changed his mind and he will now stay in the Premier League and return to London with West Ham.
This is one of the smartest signings the Hammers have made in a long while, not only because of his quality as a player, he’s versatile (he can play RB/RWB and LB/LWB), this will be excellent cover for when Diouf and Wan-Bissaka go to AFCON.
He is also an England International, which means he is homegrown, which is always a bonus in a Premier League squad. The most impressive thing about this deal however, is that we got him on a three year deal.
In previous years we would have given him a 5 year deal and he would have been at the club until his mid 30’s when he won’t be as good. However, the three year deal means his contract will expire just after he turns 31, so it would be the perfect time to either get rid of him or offer him a new short term deal.
