Graham Potter is building a new and exciting culture at West Ham United, after a toxic last couple of years in East London.
The feel-good factor was at its highest it has ever been as West Ham lifted the Conference League trophy just over two years ago; however, it quickly returned to the toxic and negative atmosphere we became so used to before David Moyes returned.
The Scotsman was let go after a mixed 23/24 campaign, despite reaching the Europa League quarter-final’s the fans weren’t best pleased with his style of play. Julen Lopetegui replaced him, and after what looked like a great summer transfer window, he was let go in January after a poor start to his career at West Ham.
Lopetegui was replaced by Graham Potter, and to be honest, nothing really changed at all. The poor football continued, we stopped shipping lots of goals, but we also started scoring less to balance it out.
It has been hard to get excited about this new season with Graham Potter, but in the last few weeks, you can feel the excitement rising. The way we’ve gone about this transfer window has been refreshing. Obviously not the finances, the sell before we buy stuff, but the type of players we seem to be targeting are very exciting.
Malick Diouf is a young player with a great reputation and bags of potential, and is an excellent start to the window. Kyle Walker-Peters is older and more experienced, but will be a very smart signing for the squad. Other players that have been linked, like Harvey Elliott, Tyler Morton, and Raphael Onyedika, are exactly the type of players we should be targeting as we try to make the squad younger and hungrier.
